From a young age, craftsmanship has been ingrained in my identity, owing much to the generational influence of my father and grandfather, both of whom were skilled artisans. I recall vividly how my grandfather taught me to wield a hammer and strike a framing nail when I was just five years old. At that time, he and my father were constructing the family home where I resided until adulthood. Not just that house, but also neighboring properties were the handiwork of these two important men in my life.
As the years passed, my youthful fascination with building and renovating spaces evolved into a more profound appreciation. Now, with a family of my own, my ardor for woodworking has only deepened. There's an ineffable joy in transforming raw timber into something not only aesthetically pleasing but also functional and enduring—something that brings pride to me as the creator.
The tumultuous year marked by the Covid-19 pandemic provided a unique backdrop for introspection and reevaluation of life's priorities. Amidst the global upheaval, I felt an increasing urge to engage in a labor of love, something that could bring delight to others as much as it does to me. It was this urge that spurred me to craft my first cutting board—a utilitarian yet elegant object designed to stand the test of time. This initial project laid the groundwork for what is now known as Design Swiss.
I sincerely hope my creations resonate with you and perhaps even kindle a spark of inspiration. Whether you find a piece that you'd love to incorporate into your own home or simply feel a newfound appreciation for the artisanal, my mission is fulfilled.
Cheers,
Design Swiss
